Why Founders Fail at Time Management
Why do so many successful people struggle with founder time management? If you are feeling frazzled, time-poor, and unable to understand where your day has gone, you aren’t alone. Most leaders wouldn’t run a company budget on estimations, yet many treat their most precious resource, time without any tracking of “actuals.” To scale, you must move from estimations to a systematic process
It is time to measure and track your time, a resource more precious to any of us than money. We need time to create, explore and yes, to sell.
I work with Founder Owners, CEO’s and Managers whose calendars are either overstacked or empty, Neither reflects what is actually going on, what they do each day, need to or should be doing.
Calendar management is an easy starting point. Put in place the time to achieve the goals and plans, block out the space to do, rest, think.
You and your team will reap the rewards when you have visibility of how much, or little, time you have available for more.
Time cannot be created but we can figure out how to spend it wisely to create the space to breathe, grow or focus on what we want most.
The Benefits of Time Management
Calendar management is a systematic process focused on organising meetings, events, and tasks to maximise your ROI. By keeping your calendar current and utilizing time blocking, you allow room for automation and focus
How to Implement Founder Time Management Today
Stop adding “reminder” strips at the top of your calendar. Instead, block out the actual time to do the work. If you have a deadline like “Payroll Due,” track backwards and add the “doing” time to your schedule. Seeing where your time is going enables you to celebrate successes instead of bashing yourself.
Expert Tip: reminders with zero minutes allocated to them, actually creates a ‘false’ calendar. If a task takes 30 minutes, it needs 30 minutes of visual space.”
Time blocking, taking time to keep your calendar in shape to reflect what you do, when you need to do it, will allow you to use automation.
Use calendar booking apps to book meetings and reduce the toing and froing
Use the 1-minute email method freeing up head space from worry,
Knowing you have the time planned in for tasks will reduce last minute andburning the midnight oil
See where you time is going and plan in monthly, quarterly and annual commitments.
